In collaboration with the Trauma Program Manager, the Trauma Registrar will assist with the coordination and data tracking of the trauma patient’s care throughout the hospital and support the stated mission, vision and values of Medical City Alliance.The Trauma Registrar is responsible for trauma data abstracting, data entry and collection, creating and generating reports and data analysis and summaries for internal and external customers to meet regional, state and hospital requirements. 

Job Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the Trauma Program Manager and Trauma Medical Director sets standards for data entry, implements necessary procedures, and provides documentation for all registry related functions.
  • Identifies all patient cases that meet criteria for inclusion in the trauma registry database
  • Maintains current trauma log of inpatients who meet trauma services inclusion criteria.
  • Reviews medical records in detail to obtain required elements needed for trauma registry reporting.
  • Consults with physicians or other clinical staff as needed for the assistance with acquiring trauma case reporting information.
  • Ensures a system is in place to monitor validity of data abstraction and entry.
  • Performs both data entry and data abstraction accurately and timely.
  • Works with the Information Technology department to maintain the data collection system and implement upgrades; Maintains and updates trauma registry software as needed
  • Collects regional trauma data on a regular basis and reports and / or transmits hospital data in a timely and complete manner as required by Texas Department of Health and Human Services (State Registry) and the American College of Surgeons (National Trauma Data Bank).
  • Retrieves, analyzes, summarizes, and prepares data in a variety of design or graph formats for the purposes of reporting, using all Microsoft Office applications and disseminates information as requested.
  • Collaborates with outside department personnel regarding data and coordinates information.
  • Collaborates with Trauma Services staff and hospital staff, and physicians to achieve and maintain trauma designation status.
  • Actively participates in Quality Improvement and Trauma Performance Improvement Program by identifying and recording quality improvement issues identified in the initial data entry of the trauma patient record, and those issues identified by clinicians during the patients hospital stay, in the trauma registry.
  • Actively participates in education activities to include trauma registry related education programs.
  • Participates in the development of trauma care systems at the community, state, and/or national level as needed.
  • Actively participates in providing outreach education and or data for injury prevention purposes. 
  • Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates the core values of Medical City Alliance.
  • Participate in regular staff development and continuing education events to maintain skills and knowledge, including but not limited to Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP) annual training.
