Description

Provides primary support to the Trauma Program Manager and the Trauma Medical Director. Accurately identifies and enters all patients into the hospital trauma registry ensuring it is current and complete. This position functions independently in the acquisition of accurate data for all patients meeting Trauma Registry inclusion criteria. Submits data to the approved registries both state and national. This position participates in committee meetings internally or externally as needed. Responsible for providing monthly, annual, and ad-hoc reports to the hospital as needed.

Job Responsibilities

The Trauma Registrar will accurately identify all patients for entry into the hospital trauma registry. Performs abstractions and data entry on all injury related admissions to the hospital, all injury related deaths, all injury related
hospital transfers and all other Level 1 activation patients. Will complete and verify the accuracy of all data collected as required for a Level II Trauma Center.
Ensures all hospital trauma registry data elements are collected and entered in a timely fashion; within 2 months of hospital discharge. Works with various transferring hospitals, EMS agencies, coroners’ offices, and other entities as needed.
Utilizes the trauma registry coding system. Accurately assigns diagnostic codes, procedure codes, and complication codes along with AIS/ISS that accurately reflect patient injuries and severity.
Provides monthly, annual, and ad-hoc reports at the request of the Trauma Program Manager and others as requested once approved by Trauma Program Manager.
Reviews emergency department logs on a daily basis to identify all trauma patients seen in the emergency department.
Oversees the coding of trauma activation charges for all trauma patients. Works closely with outpatient coders.
Maintains strict confidentiality of all patient information.
Assumes responsibility for trauma registry maintenance including daily data backup, software performance, and accuracy of information in the trauma registry.
Reports critical performance issues to the Trauma Program Manager.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:
• High School Graduate.
• Solid knowledge of data base management and coding systems preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Work requires high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion and ability to function independently. Must be detail oriented, possess strong organizational skills and be able to prioritize a large volume of work in order to complete the daily duties of the job.
• Trauma Registry certification within six months of hire.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
• Must comply with all Standards of Behavior
• Adhere to all requirements, policies, procedures and mandatory training as identified by LGMC.

• Various types of office equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Medium Work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor constitutes a maximum lift of 21-50 pounds on occasion and/or a maximum lift of 11-25 pounds on a frequent basis
• May be required to assist in the turning, lifting, or moving patients as well as walking about from patients’ rooms, as well as to and from various hospital areas
