Trauma orientation checklist for travel nurses

0
By Trauma News on November 16, 2021 Trauma Nursing

Personnel shortages are forcing many trauma programs to hire travel nurses to staff the trauma bay. Many trauma program leaders report challenges integrating temporary nurses into the regular trauma team.

Michelle Wright, BSN, RN, trauma program manager at UP Health System – Marquette in Marquette, Michigan, developed a checklist for quickly orienting travel nurses to trauma care. The checklist:

  • Specifies key points to cover in an initial tour of the trauma bay
  • Identifies trauma-specific supplies that travel nurses should be able to find quickly
  • Notes trauma-specific procedures that travel nurses should understand
  • Provides a brief but detailed introduction to the basics of trauma documentation
