Trauma admissions in a large Canadian healthcare region increased with rising gross domestic product, according to a recent paper in the American Journal of Surgery. The increase amounted to approximately 1 extra trauma admission per 100,000 population for every $3,000 increase in GDP. Trauma death rates, however, did not increase with economic activity.
