Trauma care professionals are known for their dedication and discipline — but the best trauma teams also excel at resourcefulness and creative thinking. That is why Peregrine Health Services and Trauma System News are pleased to announce the inaugural Peregrine Award for Trauma Innovation.
The goal of the Peregrine Award for Trauma Innovation is to recognize fresh ideas that result in better care for injured patients.
“The idea for this award came out of something we see all the time at the trauma centers we work with,” said Angie Chisolm, managing partner of Peregrine Health Services. “A trauma team will develop an innovative solution to a challenge they are facing, but few people at other centers will ever find out about it.”
The Peregrine Award will spotlight these creative solutions and give them national and worldwide attention.
“Our aim is, first, to recognize trauma teams for their resourcefulness and creative thinking,” said Mark Feinberg, founder of Peregrine Health Services. “And second, we want to help share these great ideas to the whole trauma community.”
Open to all trauma centers
The Peregrine Award for Trauma Innovation was created by Peregrine Health Services, LLC. The Peregrine name is new, but it brings together the same team of clinical and management experts that trauma center leaders have relied on for years.
“We consider a ‘trauma innovation’ to be any creative solution to a problem in trauma patient care or trauma program management,” Chisolm said. “That could be anything from a new initiative that improves quality or outcomes to a simple process change that results in better PI performance or standards compliance.”
Representatives from any trauma center or regional trauma network worldwide may nominate their organization for the Peregrine Award for Trauma Innovation.
“We want to recognize innovation at all levels of trauma care, so awards will be given in two separate categories,” Feinberg said. “There will be one winner for Level I or II trauma centers and one winner for Level III, IV or V trauma centers.”
Winners of the Peregrine Award for Trauma Innovation will be selected by an independent panel of national trauma experts.
Each winner will receive a financial grant that can be directed to the program need of its choice. The Level I-II winner will receive $2,500, and the Level III-IV-V winner will receive $2,500.
Nominations for the Peregrine Award are due by March 1
