A trauma innovation is any creative solution to a problem in trauma patient care or trauma program management. The innovative solution may address any challenge faced by trauma program teams — from clinical quality, PIPS and standards compliance to injury prevention, registry management and trauma team performance.

A trauma innovation might be:

> A simple process change that speeds specialty consults

> A unique approach to PI review that closes more cases earlier

> A more effective way to perform inter-rater reliability

> A low-cost intervention that improves staff education

> A novel use of existing resources that reduces trauma patient complication rates

> A new staffing model that increases nurse satisfaction

> A more efficient protocol for mental health screening

> A novel way to use data to drive injury prevention

These are just a few examples of trauma innovation. Trauma teams are encouraged to submit any creative solution that has helped them solve a problem in trauma patient care or trauma program management.

The Peregrine Award for Trauma Innovation was created by Peregrine Health Services, LLC, a team of clinical and healthcare management professionals who specialize in helping hospitals build stronger trauma programs and emergency departments.

Representatives from any trauma center or regional trauma network worldwide may nominate their organization for the Peregrine Award for Trauma Innovation.

Awards will be presented in two separate categories — one for Level I or Level II trauma centers and one for Level III, Level IV or Level V trauma centers.

Each winner will receive a financial grant that can be directed to the program need of its choice. The Level I-II winner will receive $2,500, and the Level III-IV-V winner will receive $2,500.

The winners will be honored during a special “Profiles in Trauma Innovation” online event in May 2024. (If you would like to attend this event, register here.) They will also be featured in the Trauma Innovation Special Report published in June 2024.

All entries will be evaluated based on creativity, cost-effectiveness, efficiency, scalability and quality. Judging will be performed by an independent panel of national trauma experts.
