In 2022 the number of nurses worldwide who have earned the Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN) credential surpassed 7,000. This milestone was announced in the 2022 Annual Report of the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN).

The TCRN credential allows nurses practicing across the continuum of trauma care to demonstrate their expertise and knowledge in trauma nursing. BCEN introduced the TCRN in 2016.

Last year also saw major progress in the development of BCEN’s new Certified Burn Registered Nurse (CBRN) certification. According to the annual report, beta testing for the CBRN is planned to begin in the summer of 2023.

Other BCEN highlights from 2022 include:

  • Nearly 50,000 RNs across 26 countries hold one or more BCEN credential
  • 24% increase in RNs holding the Certified Transport Registered Nurse (CTRN) credential (for a third straight year of record growth, following 19% and 29% increases in 2020 and 2021, respectively)
  • BCEN debuts its first self-hosted conference, BCEN Learn Live
