Henry Ford Providence Southfield Hospital in Southfield, Michigan, lost its Level II trauma center designation in July. The designation loss was tied to shortfalls in program documentation identified during an American College of Surgeons (ACS) site visit.
Adnan Munkarah, MD, president of clinical enterprise and chief physician executive for Henry Ford Health, said the designation loss was related to “documenting education and process improvements”, according to a report in the Detroit Free Press.
Dr. Munkarah stated that the health system is appealing the decision.
“Hospital leaders are currently working with the (American College of Surgeons), the state of Michigan and others to restore our ability to receive trauma patients via ambulance as soon as possible,” Dr. Munkarah said in a statement emailed to the Detroit News.
Henry Ford Providence Southfield is approximately 15 miles northwest of Detroit.
The hospital is not included in the most recent list of designated trauma centers published by Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
