STN releases position statement on trauma program manager qualifications

The Society of Trauma Nurses (STN) has issued a position statement on the preferred qualifications and competencies of trauma program managers (TPMs).

According to the statement, registered nurses (RNs) are the professional who are best qualified to serve as TPMs: “[W]henever possible, the role of the TPM should be assigned to an RN.”

The statement also addresses the preferred educational background for trauma program managers. The document states that TPMs should hold, at a minimum, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and preferably a Master of Science degree.
