Sigma Nursing (Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing) is now offering a free continuing education program designed to equip nurses with the tools they need to prepare for, respond to and recover from disaster situations.

Disaster to Recovery: Prioritizing Nurse Wellbeing is an evidence-based course open to all nurses. Its goal is to give nurses practical tools for responding confidently and effectively in disaster and emergency settings while protecting their own wellbeing.

Addresses personal challenge of disaster response

Disaster to Recovery: Prioritizing Nurse Wellbeing supports the psychological and emotional wellbeing of nurses by providing practical tools to safeguard mental and emotional health.

The program is delivered through modular learning, applied exercises, interdisciplinary scenarios and peer-supported practice models, making it adaptable across healthcare settings and regions.

According to Sigma Nursing, the course is not just for nurses who are directly involved in disaster response and recovery. Emergency, trauma and critical care nurses; med-surg nurses; and vulnerable population nurses (e.g., pediatric, geriatric, maternal health, dialysis, oncology, behavioral health) may be particularly interested.

Nurses who complete Disaster to Recovery: Prioritizing Nurse Wellbeing are eligible for 9.5 CE contact hours.

Sample the program with 3 micro-learning modules

Disaster to Recovery: Prioritizing Nurse Wellbeing is being offered by Sigma Nursing in collaboration with Johnson & Johnson and the J&J Foundation, as part of J&J CareCommunity.

For nurses who want to sample the program before registering, Sigma Nursing has created three 10-minute micro-learning modules that are available on the society’s YouTube channel.
