The Society for Advancement of Violence and Injury Research (SAVIR) will hold its 2015 annual conference March 11-13 in New Orleans. The goal of SAVIR is to help unify, organize and create a visible identity for researchers working across the many disciplines involved in injury and violence research.

“There will be about 180 scientific presentations at the conference, and a good number are focused on issues of trauma care or trauma and emergency care delivery systems,” said Douglas Wiebe, PhD, associate professor of epidemiology at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine. Wiebe is the current president of SAVIR.

Scheduled conference presentations include:

  • Examination of injury risk for front versus rear seat car passengers by injury severity: A matched-cohort analysis
  • Risk of subsequent injury, crime, and death among individuals hospitalized due to a firearm-related injury
  • Evaluation of a citywide program to reduce aggressive driving between commercial and passenger vehicle drivers.
  • Assessing access to pre-hospital care for traumatic brain injury patients in a resource limited setting: focus on pre-hospital transport
  • A randomized trial evaluating child dog-bite prevention in rural China through video-based testimonials
  • Factors influencing older adult participation in falls prevention programs and adoption of falls prevention behaviors
  • Assessment of the burden of injury in work-related activities not reported as occupational from a rural state trauma registry
