Dr. Peter Rhee to take charge of trauma at Atlanta’s Grady Memorial

Peter Rhee, MD, FACS, has been named medical director of the Marcus Trauma Center at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, according to a press release. He will take the helm of the Level I trauma center in June. Dr. Rhee is currently the chief of trauma, critical care, burn and emergency surgery at the University of Arizona Medical Center in Tucson.

Dr. Rhee is a retired captain in the U.S. Navy with 24 years of active duty. He served in Afghanistan and Iraq during Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

A founding member of the Tactical Combat Casualty Care Committee, Dr. Rhee serves on several national steering and research committees including the Defense Health Board’s Subcommittee on Trauma & Injury and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s blood products advisory committee.

Dr. Rhee is a member of the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. He has authored or co-authored more than 350 peer-reviewed publications, 20 book chapters and 3 books.

The new post brings Dr. Rhee back to familiar territory. He graduated summa cum laude from Georgia Tech in 1983 with a bachelor of science in health system engineering. Dr. Rhee received his medical degree from Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. He completed a fellowship in trauma and critical care at the University of Washington’s Harborview Medical Center and is double-boarded in general surgery and surgical critical care.
